Congratulations 2007 Recipient - Dr. James England

Jackson Hole, WY –On June 11, 2007, the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association honored Caldwell (works) Emmett (lives) Veterinarian,  Dr. James England with the 36th Annual Veterinarian of the Year Award.  This award was selectively given in recognition of  Dr. England's achievements and accomplishments contributing to the veterinary profession and the veterinary association.

Dr. England is presently the Professor of Animal and Veterinary Science Department at the University of Idaho, Caine Veterinary Teaching Center in Caldwell, ID. He served as its Director from 1995 - 2001. He teaches beef cow production medicine and earns high points with students because he lets them see ranches on horseback and allows inclusion on lots of procedures on patients. He doesn't just show them while they watch. He also lectures each year to ranchers around the state to teach them the latest in vaccination programs, calving and ranch management.

Dr. England has published many articles regarding various topics like: Mycobacterium paratuberculosis; Immunology; Beef Quality Assurance Resources; Necropsy for Cattle Producers; Animal Identification and many more.

Dr. England is supportive of organized veterinary medicine by being involved. He holds membership in the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians and held the Presidential office in 1993. He also belongs to the American Veterinary Medical Association, the United States Animal Health Association; the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association; Southwestern Idaho Veterinary Medical Association; and the American Association of Extension Veterinarians.

Dr. England is respected by his colleagues and was voted the award by predecessor Veterinarian of the Year recipients.

   
About this Award...

The Idaho Veterinarian of the Year is the highest award given by the IVMA. It symbolizes a career of achievement and dedication to the profession, Idaho citizens, and their animals. Candidates are nominated by the regional associations, then selected from the nominees by past recipients of the award. The recipient:

  • must be an Idaho licensed Veterinarian.
  • must have been an active IVMA member for the ten years immediately preceding nomination.
  • must be recognized as an outstanding veterinarian by his or her colleagues in the veterinary community.
  • should also be a contributor to his or her community.

In addition, the award is given in recognition of at least one of the following criteria:

  • An accumulation of accomplishments to veterinary medicine over a period of several years.
  • A single outstanding identifiable contribution to veterinary medicine within the preceding five years.
  • Outstanding expertise within a specific branch of veterinary medicine as recognized by his or her peers.
  • An outstanding contribution to society outside the field of veterinary medicine.
