The Idaho Veterinary Medical Association has received reports of dogs testing positive for Canine Influenza in Idaho. Both affected dogs, one in Boise and one in Rigby, are infected with Canine Influenza Virus (CIV) subtype H3N2. The IVMA has also heard reports of two dogs in Salt Lake City positive for CIV subtype H3N8. Canine Influenza is an emerging disease across the nation. By AVMA Delegate - Dr. Gary Lewis The Winter Session of the AVMA House of Delegates (HOD) was held in conjunction with the AVMA Leadership Conference. The meeting was held at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago on January 5th and 6th, 2018. It is my pleasure to introduce the IVMA’s new One Health Committee!  For those unfamiliar with the concept of One Health, the premise is that animal health, human health, and environmental health are inextricably linked, and everyone would benefit from collaboration between those fields.  One Health encompasses MANY different topics, and the IVMA One Health Committee has decided to focus our efforts on just a few subjects to start:  infectious and zoonotic disease, continuing education coordination, and antimicrobial resistance. Idaho Veterinary Medicine Association 2018 January Legislative Update The 2nd Regular Session of the 64th Idaho State Legislature convened on Monday, January 8, 2018. August 25, 2017 - By Michael Stevenson and Vonnita Barton On several occasions, Idaho Bureau of Laboratories (IBL), the only laboratory in Idaho to test animals for rabies, has received improper-ly packaged heads or carcasses for rabies testing. In fact, there have been isolated incidents of blood leaking out of wrapped samples in the shipping box. The Department of Transportation (DOT) can issue penalties including fines to submitters who improperly package and ship such sample types. In January 2017, the board signed a contract with government relations specialist, Mr. Martin Bilbao. Martin had worked with the IVMA in 2015 when the IVMA came to an agreement with the Idaho Humane Society; regarding the care and services delivered by a nonprofit veterinary organization.
